Alps Ecoscience join new Supergen Bioenergy Hub as industrial partners

Alps Ecoscience is  pleased to be an industrial partner to the new Supergen Bioenergy Hub, which has received £5M in funding for the next four years. According to a press release in pwe magazine, the vision of the new impact Supergen Bioenergy Hub (SBH) is to increase sustainable biomass production in the UK to minimise greenhouse gas emissions. Established in 2018 Supergen Bioenergy Hub works with academia, industry, government and other groups to develop sustainable bioenergy systems that support the UK’s transition to an affordable, resilient, low-carbon energy future. The SBH is based at the Energy and  EBRI at Aston University.

The primary objective of the Supergen Bioenergy Hub is to drive forward the research and development of sustainable bioenergy technologies. Bioenergy is a crucial component of the transition to renewable energy sources and plays a pivotal role in reducing carbon emissions.

Enhancing Sustainability: The hub is committed to developing bioenergy solutions that are not only efficient but also environmentally sustainable. This includes exploring biomass feedstocks, biofuel production methods, and energy conversion technologies that minimise greenhouse gas emissions.

Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration: To tackle the multifaceted challenges of bioenergy, the hub fosters collaboration between researchers from various disciplines. This interdisciplinary approach ensures a comprehensive understanding of bioenergy systems and promotes innovative solutions.

Knowledge Dissemination: Another vital aspect of the Supergen Bioenergy Hub is knowledge sharing. Through publications, conferences, and outreach programs, the hub disseminates its research findings to both the scientific community and the wider public.

Industrial Partnerships, including ALPS Ecoscience: One of the keys to the Supergen Bioenergy Hub’s success lies in its collaboration with industrial partners. These partnerships provide crucial support and resources to accelerate the development, scale-up and widest adoption of new bioenergy technologies. Among these partners, ALPS Ecoscience is one of a new generation of small company (SME), bridging the gap between academia and industry. Seeking to work with academics to accelerate the energy transition and commercialise the new technologies required for decarbonisation.

ALPS Ecoscience’s Role: ALPS Ecoscience is an innovative biological engineering company that specialises in connecting academic research with industrial applications in the field of green energy. They will contribute to the Supergen Bioenergy Hub by:

Facilitating Technology Transfer: ALPS  acts as a bridge between academic researchers and industrial stakeholders. They help to advise and steward cutting-edge research towards practical applications that can be used by industries to develop green fuels. ALPS, Commercial Director, Alan has joined the Advisory Board, which reviews current research projects and evaluates funding applications for new studies.

Accelerating Commercialisation: By leveraging their expertise and industry connections, ALPS Ecoscience assists in speeding up the commercialisation process of bioenergy technologies. This means that promising discoveries from the lab can transition into scalable and market-ready solutions more quickly.

Promoting Sustainable Practices: ALPS Ecoscience shares the hub’s commitment to sustainability and will support the promotion of the Hub sustainability agenda, raising awareness amongst all stakeholder groups. Their involvement ensures that bioenergy solutions developed through the hub’s research are not only effective but also aligned to industry, policy and wider society’s aims. Thus helping to assure ideas have the  adoption from the outset.

In conclusion, the Supergen Bioenergy Hub’s new funding signifies a continued investment by the UK research councils into the pursuit of sustainable bioenergy solutions. With ambitious objectives to advance bioenergy research and to increase participation from industrial collaborators such as ALPS Ecoscience’s the SBH is bridging the gap between academia and industry. We can anticipate further developments in the realm of green fuel production and these efforts hold the promise of a more sustainable low carbon energy future.
