Biogas Artificial intelligence (AI) modelling
Pilot Scale AD Plants for Production Simulations.
ALPS EcoScience is proud to collaborate with Dr. Michael Short and his team at the University of Surrey, facilitated through the Supergen Bioenergy Hub and funded by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) and Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). This partnership aims to explore digitalisation within anaerobic digestion, a critical area of research for advancing the development of biogas production to replace fossil gas.
Dr. Michael Short, a renowned expert in chemical engineering and sustainability, has been instrumental in this collaborative effort. Working to involve biogas industry experts with the academia to conceive and develop AI-informed forecasting models. These models, which draw from physics as well as computer science are designed to enhance the predictability and efficiency of anaerobic digestion processes, provide secure production at higher volumes.
The primary focus of this collaboration is to integrate artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques into the anaerobic digestion process. By developing sophisticated forecasting models, the team aims to predict and optimise the parameters that influence biogas production. This includes monitoring and analysing data from different stages of the digestion process, identifying patterns, and making data-driven decisions to improve overall efficiency.
The development of AI-informed forecasting models is expected to bring multiple benefits to the field of anaerobic digestion. These models can help in predicting potential issues before they arise, thereby reducing downtime and maintenance costs. They can also optimise the use of resources, leading to increased biogas yield and reduced feedstock wastage. Furthermore, the insights gained from these models can contribute to the broader understanding of anaerobic digestion processes, paving the way for further technological advancement.
